Empowered by Christ: Planning, Zoning, and King Solomon…?

1 Kings 6:1
In the four hundred and eightieth year after the Israelites came out of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv, the second month, he began to build the temple of the Lord.

Throughout time and history, God’s people have built spaces for worship and fellowship. 1 Kings and 2 Chronicles provide extensive historical details about the building of the temple in Jerusalem. And, while the update shared today can’t be compared to inspired scripture, Lutheran High, with the grace of God that is unchanged throughout time and history, is setting out to create a new space to further the growth and fellowship we offer to LHS students.

The Space

Size and placement

The 10,800+ square foot multipurpose facility will be located south of LHS and east of the Rec-Plex South building.

Access

Our new facility will connect to the campus via the existing pedestrian bridges over Spencer Creek and will be accessed by vehicle through the Rec-Plex parking and drive system through a cross-access agreement with the City.

Exterior

Our facility features a metal panel structure with masonry base elements and colors consistent with our branding.

Interior

A  flexible practice gym space and a robotics training and competition area

Recently

A recent meeting with the City of St. Peters represented an important step forward, and overall, the meeting was very encouraging, with strong support from the city for this project and for our continued growth.

A number of late review comments required adjustments to the site plan before the Planning and Zoning meeting. These comments focused primarily on fire access, water infrastructure, and stormwater management. To accommodate, we have shifted our plans in two ways. To meet the stated requirements, we will widen the access driveway and add a stormwater detention basin to manage runoff for both the current project and a potential future gymnasium expansion.

The result

The Planning and Zoning Commission responded positively to our project and the alignment with the Rec-Plex area. Their recommendation supports moving the project forward, subject to a few administrative contingencies, primarily finalizing the cross-access driveway agreement with the City and coordinating curbing and driveway edging details on the site plan.

City planning staff presented their evaluation of the project and also recommended approval of the site plan and building elevations, noting that the design is consistent with the surrounding Rec-Plex facilities and our existing campus.

This  outcome allows us to continue moving forward with planning, fundraising, and design refinement as we evaluate the timing of construction and the funding necessary for the next phase of the LHS mission and ministry.

Thanks to our faith partners

This result is due to strong support and partnership from  key partners:

1 Kings 6:14
So Solomon built the temple and completed it.

Throughout the seven years it took King Solomon to complete the temple, he remained steadfast in his prayer and praise to God. Likewise, we will do the same. We ask for your prayers of thanks for our partners, the civil servants we’ve been working with, and all the friends and family of LHS who have offered their time, talent, and treasure to this effort.
