Empowered by Christ: What does this mean?

Alas! And did my Savior bleed, And did my sovereign die? Would he devote that sacred head for such a worm as I? (LSB 437, v1)

This week, we reflect on what it means to be empowered. To the world, to be empowered is the confidence and authority to take control of your life and actions – the self-determination to do what you want, free from the burden of accountability to others.

Now, let’s consider what it means to be empowered by Christ.

And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

Philippians 2:8

Because of his humble death and glorious resurrection…we are free. And with that freedom, we are empowered not to realize our own potential but to live in service to Him and the people around us.

But drops of grief can ne’er repay The debt of love I owe; Here, Lord, I give myself away: ‘Tis all that I can do. (LSB 437, v4)
