A Standing Ovation for LHS Theatre!
LHS Community,
At Lutheran High School, we are deeply committed to our mission to Grow and Serve in Christ, and one of the most vibrant examples of that mission lived out this year has been through our remarkable theatre program. With a long tradition of memorable performances, dedicated student actors, and passionate staff leadership, our theatre department has taken some significant and exciting steps forward—elevating the arts at LHS to new heights.
This spring, our outstanding production of Mary Poppins earned multiple nominations in the St. Louis High School Musical Theatre Awards (SLHSMTA)—a first in LHS history! Competing with 51 other area high schools, our students and directors were recognized in several categories. These students include Jonas Coffman, John Gong, Benjamin Huster, as well as the overall ensemble. Additionally, two of our staff members were also nominated: Mr. Brian Scheller (Outstanding Direction & Music) and Mrs. Kathryn Pennington (Outstanding Choreography). Seniors Brayden Mierek and Luke Huster also get to perform in a production number at the ceremony. What an incredible milestone for our school and an inspiration for our growing arts community!
As our theatre program continues to flourish, so too does the need for a performance space that matches the excellence and energy of our students. That’s why, as part of the Empowered by Christ: Enriching Our Future Capital Campaign, we’re prioritizing much-needed enhancements to The Commons—transforming it into a more effective venue for performances, concerts, chapels, and weekly devotions. This vision supports not just the arts, but our overall mission: to offer our students enriching experiences that allow them to express themselves as they grow and serve in Christ.

Currently, we have received $1.5 million in pledges toward our Celebration Goal. As we enter the final month of the school year, we are prayerfully working to exceed this goal so construction can move forward this summer on our Commons and classroom renovations. With the kitchen project already approved by our Board of Directors and set to begin later this month by Droste Construction, we are eager to take this next step forward in providing exceptional spaces for our students to learn, grow, worship, and create.
What are our needs in the Commons? Thank you for your prayerful consideration of these naming opportunities:
