boys' swimming

Colossians 3:17 says, “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”  As the LHS athletic mission statement indicates, “Winning is an Attitude.” The swim program’s philosophy is to provide an atmosphere where our “Cougles” can develop their spiritual, mental, physical, social, and emotional gifts through the avenue of athletic competition. Working as a combined squad between Lutheran High School and Christian High School, the swim program encourages excellence and is conducted under the principle of doing all things for the glory of Christ.  Partnering together offers student athletes the unique opportunity to compete with one another and share the common goal of living a life of Christian service to further spread the Gospel.

Sue Hancock is the head coach for both the boys and girls swim and dive teams. Since the team’s inception 6 years ago, they have grown steadily in size and results. Boys and girls from both teams have qualified for and competed at the state championship meet each season. Both teams have also been AAA Conference champions.

Sue attended the University of Missouri, Columbia, obtaining a BSBA in business. She competed on the Mizzou women’s swim team all four years and was captain of the team her senior year.

Over the past 15 years, she has coached numerous summer league teams in Florissant and Hazelwood.  In addition to coaching for Lutheran, Sue recently retired from teaching math Christian High School, but will continue tutoring students weekly. She and her husband Jim have five children and ten grandchildren, and they enjoy traveling across the country off-season to visit them all.
