Cougar Family,
I hope you and your loved ones enjoyed a blessed Christmas and New Year filled with rest, joy, and the peace of Christ. As we step into a new semester, I am reminded of Paul’s words in Philippians 1:3–4: “I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy.” What a gift our extended Cougar community—students, parents, and especially grandparents—continues to be.
This spring, we are excited to introduce a new initiative at Lutheran High School: Intentional Christian Grandparenting, a partnership rooted in the Legacy Coalition’s Grandparenting Matters ministry. This effort is designed to support, equip, and encourage grandparents as they embrace their God-given role of passing down faith, wisdom, and spiritual influence to the next generation.
A special word of appreciation goes to Vince & Karen Braddy, grandparents of 8 and soon-to-be Cougar grandparents (who also had four kids graduate from LHS), whose passion and leadership have helped bring this opportunity to LHS. They are partnering closely with us as we begin laying the foundation for a robust, Christ-centered program that will bless families for years to come.
What Is Intentional Christian Grandparenting?
Legacy Coalition, helps churches and schools strengthen the spiritual impact of grandparents in the lives of their grandchildren. Their resources are clear, biblical, and practical—focusing on prayer, discipleship, relationship-building, and living out a legacy of faith. As they remind us, grandparents are not simply observers, they’re God-appointed influencers.
Why This Fits the Mission of Lutheran High School
This initiative aligns beautifully with our mission and core values at Lutheran High School, which emphasize spiritual formation, strong relationships, and Christ-centered leadership.
—Spiritual & Academic Growth – Faith is nurtured most deeply through Christ-centered relationships. Empowering grandparents to disciple their grandchildren supports this growth beyond the classroom.
—Servant Leadership – Grandparents have an incredible opportunity to model humility, grace, prayer, and service—shaping students’ hearts for Christ.
—Building Character & Purpose – Grandparental voices often speak lasting wisdom into a young person’s life, helping them understand who they are and Whose they are.
—Authentic Relationships – We believe in strengthening the home-school-church partnership. This initiative widens the circle of faith influence around each student.
This is not just a program, it is an outreach opportunity that strengthens families, connects generations, and expands our ministry into our association congregations and community.
