|American Legion Oratory Contest – THE AMERICAN LEGION, Department of Missouri, during this school year, again sponsors an Oratorical Contest for high school students in Missouri. The purpose of the contest is to develop knowledge and appreciation of the United States Constitution, the ability to think and speak clearly and critically, and the acceptance of the duties, responsibilities, rights and privileges of American citizenship. |Boston University Trustee Scholarship – The Boston University Trustee Scholarship is a 4-year, full-tuition scholarship. To learn more about the scholarship, or to apply, go to Boston|
|Bradley University – Bradley is offering a special incentive for seniors to apply for admissions and complete your FAFSA early. If you apply for admission by October 15th AND complete your FAFSA in the month of October, you will receive your financial aid offer by November 15th. Bradley also offers an online college cost estimator which can be found at Bradley|
|Bright Flight Scholarship – Learn more about the Missouri Bright Flight Scholarship and other Missouri scholarship programs. Check out the Department of Higher Education website at Missouri|
|Community College Scholarships for seniors – Saint Charles Community College offers a number of scholarships for incoming students. The SCC Scholarship flyer has been posted to the Class of 2017 Ebackpack folder.
|Danforth Scholars Program at Washington University – Seniors: If you are considering Washington University, please talk with Mr Roundey about the Danforth Scholars Program.|
|Missouri S&T Chancellor’s Scholarship – This scholarship is valued at $12,000/year and renewable for three additional years (total value of $48,000). Recipients must demonstrate leadership skills in school and community and have a 3.75 GPA and ACT of 31. Visit Chancellors for more info and to apply. Apply for Admissions to S&T by October 15th and the scholarship by November 1.|
|Optimist Club Oratorical Contest – The O’Fallon Optimist Club is sponsoring an Oratorical Contest for any students under the age of 18 (as of October 1, 2016). The topic this year is, “What the world gains from optimism”. Check out Optimist for more details and an application form.|
|Scholarship Search by Sallie Mae® – Scholarship Search by Sallie Mae® is the free, easy way for students to find scholarship opportunities that match their skills and interests, with access to 5 million scholarships worth up to $24 billion.
Here’s how it works:
· Students register for free.
· They answer a few questions about themselves, creating a custom profile.
· Scholarship Search serves up scholarships based on the student’s skills, hobbies, interests, and more.
· Students can receive email alerts when new matches are posted and update their profile any time.
|University of Dayton Leaders Award – LHS has been asked to nominate up to 5 graduating seniors for the University of Dayton Leadership Award. If you are a senior, and would like to be considered for this award, please talk with Mr Roundey.|
|Valparaiso University Ament-Brenner Health Care Scholarship – established at Valparaiso University by the Lutheran Charities Foundation of St Louis provides financial assistance to students preparing for a profession in direct health care. If you are interested in a career in health care, and want to attend Valparaiso University, you should check out this program at Valpo. The application deadline is February 1, 2017.|
|Wittenberg University – in Springfield, OH offers a variety of scholarships to Lutheran students. Check them out at Wittenberg|
|10/3/16||Wendy’s High School Heisman Award – Seniors: Wendy’s believes in supporting education and celebrating the successes of top performing high school scholar-athletes. Applying for the Wendy’s High School Heisman is your chance to gain local, state, and even national recognition for all that you’ve put into your high school career. If you’ve maintained at least a B average, participate in at least one school-sponsored sport, are a leader in your community and role model at your school, then you’ve got what it takes to be a Wendy’s High School Heisman. Seniors can apply online now at Wendy’s. Application deadline is October 3, 2016.|
|10/25/16||Horatio Alger Scholarship Program – The mission of the Horatio Alger Association is to provide financial assistance to students who have financial need and have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity. These scholarships range in value from $7,000 – $25,000. Applications are being accepted now and must be submitted by October 25th. Apply online at Horatio Alger Scholars.|
|11/8/16||Prudential Spirit of Community Award – If you’ve made a difference by volunteering in your community over the past year, you could win $1,000 and a fabulous trip to Washington, D.C., by applying for a Prudential Spirit of Community Award! Even more importantly, you could win recognition that might inspire other young people to follow your example. These prestigious awards, sponsored by Prudential Financial and the National Association of Secondary School Principals, have honored tens of thousands of middle level and high school students over the past 18 years solely for their volunteer work. |11/30/16||Elks National Foundation Scholarship – The Elks National Foundation will award 500 scholarships this year to members of the Class of 2017. These scholarships will range in value from $1000-12,5000/year (renewable for three additional years). Applicants must be graduating in 2017 and US Citizens. Applications will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need. Applications are online at Elks and must be submitted by November 30th.|
|12/15/16||Some new dates/info from Mizzou Scholarships – The scholarship deadline for Mizzou is December 15th. In order to meet this deadline, you should have your Mizzou admissions process completed by December 1.
Housing – The housing process has changed for Mizzou. Starting in mid-November, students who have applied to Mizzou will be able to submit a Housing Application. Room selection is based on the date of your Housing Application (not your application for admission).
|12/18/16||Entrepreneur Award – Graduating high school seniors who operate their own small business are eligible to receive a 2017 NFIB Young Entrepreneur Award. Learn more about this award and apply at NFIB. Application deadline is December 18th.|
|12/31/16||Make College Happen Scholarship – The Make College Happen Challenge asks high school students to creatively tell us how they plan to pay for college. Their response can be in the form of a poem, video, essay, photo, or song. Students can win up to $15,000! The contest launches November 1, 2016. This program is open to students ages 14-18. |1/13/17||MSPE Engineering Scholarship – The Missouri Society of Professional Engineers will award two $1000 scholarships to graduating seniors who meet the following criteria:
Have a 3.0 GPA
Act Math score of 29 and English score of 25
Plan to major in Engineering at a college in Missouri
Application forms are available in Student Services and must be submitted by January 13, 2017.
|1/17/17||Geisinger Scholarship – The University of Michigan College of Engineering offers the Geisinger Scholarship to qualified engineering students. This award is valued at $20,000/year and is renewable (for a total value of $80,000). Deadline to apply for the scholarship is January 17, 2017. You must also apply to the University of Michigan College of Engineering. Learn more by visiting Geisinger|
|1/26/17||Tuskegee Airmen Scholarship – Each year the Tuskegee Airmen award forty $1500 scholarships to graduating seniors. The Hugh J White chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen encourages seniors to apply for scholarship. Historically, 40% of the applications submitted by the local chapter have been scholarship winners. The application form is available in Student Services and must be submitted by January 26, 2017.|
|1/31/17||Princeton Prize for Race Relations – Princeton University wishes to recognize high school students who help improve race relations in their schools or communities. Winners will receive $1000 and a paid trip to Princeton University to attend the Princeton Prize Symposium on Race. Deadline for applications is January 31. Learn more at Princeton|
|2/1/17||James L & Nellie M Westlake Scholarship Program – This scholarship will cover college tuition, fees, books, and supplies for the 2017-18 school year and is renewable. Criteria for this award include:
Be a Missouri resident
Graduating in 2017 and planning to attend college in the fall
Have at least a 2.5 GPA
Family adjusted gross income (AGI) of $50,000 or lessApplication deadline is February 1, 2017. Apply online at Westlake
|2/28/17||Festival of the Little Hills Scholarship – The Festival of the Little Hills is offering scholarships to seniors of the Class of 2017. Five scholarships, each valued at $1000, will be awarded. Application forms are available in Student Services or online at Festival. Application deadline is February 28, 2017. This scholarship requires an essay and three letters of recommendation, so do not wait until the last minute to start the process.|
|3/20/17||St Peters Kiwanis Club Scholarship – The St Peters Kiwanis Club will award one (1) $1,250 scholarship to a graduating senior. Criteria for this award include: Graduating in May, participation in high school activities, active in community service, and a leadership role at school or in the community. Deadline for applications is March 20th. Application forms are in Student Services.|
|3/31/17||St Charles Optimist Club – will award five (5) one year scholarships of $1000 each to seniors from selected St Charles County high schools (LHS is one of the schools) who live in the St Charles or Orchard Farm school district. An additional $500 scholarship will be awarded to a senior planning to attend Saint Charles Community College. Criteria for these awards include: 3.2 GPA, two or more extra-curricular activities in high school, two letters of recommendation, and a 200 word essay. Application forms are in Student Services and must be postmarked by March 31, 2017.|
|4/15/17||LWML Scholarship – The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League LWML will award a number of scholarships to qualifying members of the Class of 2017. The two basic criteria for these awards include:
1. Being a member of a LCMS Lutheran congregation 2. Enrolling in one of the Concordia University System schools and planning to major in professional church work.. Applications must be postmarked by April 15 and are available at LWML under the Forms tab.
